Confidentiality and Welfare of the Child

Confidentiality
Your care and treatment in the ACU is strictly confidential. We will need to write to your GP or the doctor who referred you to us to let them know what tests or treatment you are undergoing and the outcome. You will be asked to complete a consent form allowing us to write to them. If you have any objections to this please let us know immediately. If your treatment involves donor eggs, donor sperm or IF, we are required by law to inform the HFEA. Of course, they keep this information confidential as well.

Welfare of the Child
We have a statutory duty to take into account the welfare of any children born as a result of fertility treatment.

In order to do this we will:-
1. Ask you details about yourselves
2. write to your GP and other health care workers who may have been looking after you in the past

We may:-
1. Ask for a formal assessment by an independent team
2. Refer your case to our ethical committee
3. If you do not give your consent to write to your GP we will need to understand the reasons why."

Our aim
1. We aim to offer a friendly and caring environment within the Unit and our goals are simple. We want to provide the best possible care for each individual couple to give them the best chance of achieving a pregnancy.
